About Us

Bioforest Pte Ltd (Co Reg No. 200512041H) was established in 2006 as a joint venture between Kim Hong Seng Regional Pte Ltd and Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory Limited to conduct research on tropical tree species and to commercialize improved or elite planting materials. It also provides consultation services on plant tissue culture, plantation and forestry management.

The operation of Bioforest Pte Ltd in Singapore serves as the knowledge centre on tree biology and biotechnology, the regional R&D as well as the training centre to support its regional operations. We have done developmental work on propagation of Acacia mangium and Gmelina arborea (white teak), two top choices for tropical forest plantations. Elite individual trees with desirable traits such as higher growth rate, better architecture and better wood quality in forest plantation were identified. Highly efficient mass propagation protocols have been developed, standardized and adopted to clone selected elite trees for mass production of tree seedlings. The tree seedlings have been planted to support reforestation for sustainable wood supply.

Our company is currently focusing on the production and sale of elite variety of Gmelina arborea tree seedlings that are faster growing and have other desirable traits. We are also conducting tree breeding followed by field trial evaluation. Further, it is exploring other opportunities such as research and development on Paraserianthes falcataria (Sengon). In addition to the Singapore operation, a subsidiary in Indonesia – PT Bioforest Indonesia was set up to increase the production capacity and to provide various services to our Indonesia customers.
